Time taken: 35 minutes

Another random street in Mexico City for today with a look at a couple of shops this time (which I think is a Pharmacy but I’m not to sure) and this rather weirdly shaped building above it which is all kinds of funky, architecturally speaking and looks like it has elements of several things in it including a church but hey, it sure is eye-catching! Kind of wished that I’d spent more time defining some of the lines it (especially around the awning) but other than that I really like the sketch and how it came out with particular to the bit of truck that you can see in the bottom right hand corner. Quite enjoying these Mexican sketches!

Till next time!

So, after doing that sketch of a frontloader yesterday I decided that I was a bit burned out on New York City so we’ve headed south to Mexico City where I’m hoping the architecture will be a lot less uniform and have a bit more randomness and different elements to each scene, starting with this random view of a house somewhere int he suburbs. Quite an odd looking building, or rather, couple of buildings with a huge gated area next to the thin house and a random mixture of textures which I found enticing. Quite happy with the sketch as well, not as well defined as usual but I think for the time I had it shows what was there well and I enjoyed it and the various bits of it and I hope you lot will do to!

Till next time!

Day 717: Caterpillar Wheelloader

Day 717: Caterpillar Wheelloader

Time taken: 40 minutes

So, something a bit different for today as I was struggling to find a building to sketch that I found interesting when I came across this Caterpillar wheelloader (or at least that’s what I believe it is according to caterpillars website) and decided what the hell lets sketch a  vehicle instead of a building today. Didn’t want to spend too much time on it as I have a 10 hour work shift today so its basically just a outline and some very basic shading thrown in but I like it and think it looks like the actual thing. I was a bit worried about the wheels but I don’t think they came out that badly in the end so it’s all good. Hope you don’t mind the quick change, no doubt I’ll be back to buildings tomorrow!

Till then!

Day 716: Joes Bakery

So, another speed sketch for today along the same street as the last two, this time though of a bakery with a rather out of place looking house on top of it (well I assume its a house of some sort, may just be the store room for the bakery or something). Quite enjoyed this one and how it came out though if I had had a bit more time I probably would have pushed the values in areas more and defined the shop front but all in all I like it!

Another shop front along the same street as yesterdays shop front, this time though a little farm shop chosen mostly for the veg and fruit displays out the front of it. Pretty happy with how managed to get the fruit and veg boxes done though the sketch isn’t my favourite and I really need to work on my figures in scenes like this. Overall though, another nice sketch to add to the growing collection of New York ones!

Till next time!

So, wanted to try and do another quick sketch today as I wanted to get some time into the drawing I’m currently working on. Decided to try and do this row of rather plain shop fronts as I wanted a simple subject. Turns out however that I got a bit carried away with details in it as I only got one of the street drawn rather than the several buildings that I wanted still, I like what I did get down, especially the contrast between the car at the bottom and the building. So, not quite as interesting as usual but I hope you all like it anyway!

Till next time!

Another house for today with no other inspiration other than I just liked the shape. I also tried to cut back the amount of time these sketches are taking me as, rather excitedly I have got my first commission so need to be spending time on those as well as this sketch blog. Not a bad sketch for the time that I’ve taken over it though I wish I had used a 0.1 for the shading rather than just using the 0.3 that I had also used for the line work. Still not too worry, I’m still happy with it!

Till next time!

So, a small but detailed sketch for today with a look at some more unique and out of place architecture, looking like something you’d see in an English countryside village rather htna in the middle of New York but there you go, more interesting sketch subjects for me! Really enjoyed doing this one as well with all its details, especially the timber framing. Looking at this though I may have to try and make the stippling in the sky either less uniform or denser as it looks a bit like rain here but, I still love the sketch!

Till next time!

Some more houses for today, chosen due to the shapes of them and the random stone pattern on the partially drawn building tot he left. It was also a snowy scene so tried to show that on the ground (which was the only place that the snow was). Buildings turned out a bit narrow but I don’t think it matters all that much to the sketch in its whole and I like the final results so I’m happy with it and I hope you guys like it too!

Till next time!
