Went really loose with this one of another street scene in Paris of some really nice building and café tables. Really liked the arches to the right of the scene with the receding buildings  and the people in the café so thought I’d give it a go. Hope you don’t mind the looseness and like the outcome!

Till next time!

So, loving the look of these sketches lately and how there coming out even if they arev quite small sketches. Chose this one as I loved the look of the big red gates ( not that you can tell they’re red in a black and white sketch but hey!). Again though the sketch came out nicely and looks like the subject which makes me happy!

Day 743: Small Shop

Day 743: Small Shop (Av Canal Nacional 28A, 04489 Cuidad de Mexico, Mexico City)

So, decided to try and do a series of the smaller shops and buildings in Mexico City as I haven’t had a lot of time to get these done lately, so, decided in some rather illogical way that doing smaller more detailed sketches that take the same time would work. Whatever logic is or isn’t there though I liked this small shop and although the values could have been pushed more I like the outcome of the sketch.

Another one in a similar style to the previous day but this time with some shading added on top of the texture. Saved some time with this one by just doing the initial drawing in a thicker nibbed pen so I didn’t have to worry about having to bold out the lines in the end of the sketch and I quite like how the sketch came out for the amount of time that I spent on it. A bit sad that I didn’t have time to include the telegraph pole to the side of the building but there we go, the wires would probably have only distracted or broken up the rest of the sketch.

So, apologies for falling behind again with uploading these sketches but we’ve not been having a brilliant time lately with stuff happening in the family and as such I’ve not had much time to do these sketches let alone write these blog posts. Anyway I have still been managing to get them done starting with this partly finished one of a shop front on a corner in Mexico City where I was drawn tot he random items inside it and the interesting looking bike cart thingy outside. Still, even without managing to finish it I quite like the outcome and the fact that my 18 month old son wandered up at one point and pointed to the tiny, messily drawn car inside the shop  (I think it’s one of them small electric kid cars) and said ‘car’ unprompted was the icing on the cake!

Day 728: Mexican Bike Taxi

Day 728: Mexican Bike Taxi

Time taken: 20 minutes

So, a bit of a shorter one for today but I had to sketch one of these bike taxi things I keep seeing all over the city which appears to combine the idea of a Rickshaw with a motorbike. As said above it was a lot quicker than my normal sketches but I don’t think the quality suffered for it and I’m happy with how it came out though the background elements do look a bit disjointed from the bike and rider, still a fun a slightly different sketch. Also I’ve just realised that I’m only 2 days away from two years of this daily sketching so that’s exciting. Now I just need to find something interesting to sketch for then!

Another rather simple looking scene for todays sketch as I didn’t think I would have that much time to actually do it as it was daddy daycare today. Still I really liked the look of the shop on the left so really didn’t mind how simple the scene was and had a lot of fun sketching it. Took a bit of liberty with the whole values of the inside of the shop and a couple of the other bits of the sketch but I think that they helped with the values so I’m not so worried about it and I hope you guys aren’t either!

Till next time!

Day 725: Ensaladas

Day 725: Ensaladas (Av, Sor Juana Ines de la cruz 83, Metropolitana, Mexico City)

Reference view: Unfortunately I’ve lost it and can’t find the street even using the address.

Time taken: 30 minutes

So, back in a more built up part of the city today looking at these two little shops with some cars parked out front. Nothing too overwhelmingly interesting with the architecture and look of the actual subject but I just liked how the elements looked together and how they formed the scene. Anyway I hope you lot like it as much as I do!

Till next time!

So, as you will have probably noticed, I’ve done this one in a bit of a older style than the ones that I have been doing recently and really enjoyed it. No real reason to the change other than I just wanted to try something a bit looser for a change rather than the more refined and controlled stuff that I have been doing.  No real rhyme or reason for the subject choice either to be honest I’ve just always loved the look of favela type structures and although no where near as run down as a normal favela this had some of the shanty town elements and they caught my eye. Also liked the loose look of the style and the just putting down the liens without to much thought so may go back to this style for a bit.

Hope you guys don’t mind too much!

Till next time!
