Day 665: Overton Station

Day 665: Overton Station

Another station that I don’t think I’ve ever noticed us stopping at is in the town of Overton. This view of the station however I really liked, with the footbridge and the factory behind it. Decided to go a bit more solid with this sketch though still using a broken line which worked out a lot better than I think the other ones have done lately which was nice. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to complete the factory in the background but I quite like the extremely the faded look at the back as I think it makes the bridge and the foreground pop a but more.

So, another stop along the lien with another relatively old and familiar styled station with Gillingham, Dorset. Quite a nice building though with the ubiquitous bridge just about visible in the background. Not much else to say about this one other than the attempt to add some life to it with the traffic outside and the people wandering around which was fun to do.

So, this one took a little bit shorted then the others have been taking though not sure why I guess I was just in a fast sketching mood. Again it’s a fairly similar site and style tot he other stations on the line just with the buildings rearranged in a different shape and size. Not sure how I feel about the black areas in this one I think they may be a bit overpowering in the sketch, maybe drawing your eye away from the building but oh well, I enjoyed it!

So, this was about the best streetview that I could get of Yeovil Junction, which is ironic seeing as its one of the bigger stations on the line but nevermind seeing as it’s a lovely little bridge with some nice design on it. Thankfully the sketch came out really nicely as well which is cool and the brush pen was definitely a good choice in my opinion in defining the shadow areas.

So, next along the Axminster to Waterloo route (technically the route is Exeter – Waterloo but seeing as were catching it from Axminster I’m sticking with that) is the station at Crewkerne. Again its a very old looking station with its brick work and the usual awnings. I tried doing this one with my brush pen but decided that the lines were a bit too unpredictable so instead, switched back to the fineliner and used the brush pen for some of the shadows instead which was definitely quicker than cross hatching!

Day 654: Axminster Railway St

So, having finished the journey into Exeter on the other line (as far as I can tell seeing as I sketched the terminus for the line a while back) I’ve now decided to sketch the stations and interesting bits along the route that I most often have travelled via train which is the Axminster to Waterloo line. Can’t remember off the top of my head how many stations are actually along the line but I’m using google maps to just follow it and sketching the station names that I actually recognise . Anyway lets get started!

So, this is Axminster station, about 6 miles from where I live. Can’t get a platform view from google streetview but I liked the view of the front of the building anyway so it doesn’t matter. Quite an old looking station with the new addition of the footbridge (I say new it’s probably about 10 years old) when they put the second track back into service. Quite a busy sketch especially with all the cars in the parking lot out front but I got the look fo the station pretty accurately and like the outcome of the sketch. Let’s just hope you lot aren’t getting bored of trains already lol.

So, were back on our rail journey up the coast from Dartmouth, this time coming into a station that’s in a town I’ve never heard of (or a part of Exeter I’ve never heard of as I can’t make out if it’s part of Exeter or not). Looks like a pretty small station so I just did a sketch of the pedestrian overpass that seems to be the main feature of the station. As I said, its pretty basic but I still quite like the look of it and the structure of the actual bridge so am happy with the sketches outcome!

Heading into another station along the Dawlish line (no idea if that is what it’s actually called but lets just roll with it). Another long view up the station though this time there isn’t any trains there so its not quite as interesting. Still it gave me a good view of the actual track and station which was nice so I thought why not and gave it a go. Pretty happy with the angles in this one as I think they gave me some of the most accurate ones that I’ve had in a while and despite how empty the sketch seems, I just seem to really like it.

So, next stop along the route is Dawlish where we have this interesting and unique station more reminiscent of somewhere in London than along the south coast with its raised railways leading into the station. Very enjoyable sketch as well and one that I’m happy with the outcome of, especially the trussed bridge.
