Day 762: 104 Calle Matamoros, Mexico City

Day 762: 104 Calle Matamoros, Mexico City

Time taken: 25 minutes

So this was me trying to switch to a much faster way of sketching that is a lot looser and is me just drawing what I see rather than sitting there thinking about it while doing it. After all these are meant to be sketches and not finished pieces (though, given that I really enjoy looking at sketches I don’t mind this at all). Anyway this is a warehouse building in Mexico City which just had some nice features and brickwork to it which I wanted to and I’m happy with the outcome and the speed of the sketch and it was fun to try and do it without thinking about what I was doing!

Till next time!

So, another building in Mexico City this time chosen as I liked the different levels and layers that it had to it and the shadows being cast. I choose to try and give this a much more free and loose look and feel to it and I really think it paid off in comparison to yesterdays sketch which was abit more controlled and didn’t work at all.

Till next time!

Day 758: Patterned Building

Day 758: Patterned Building (Sur 24-A 3, Agricola Oriental, Mexico City)

SO, as you can probably see this isn’t my best work which is a shame as I really liked the interesting brickwork on the building. I almost decided to scrap it and start again but thought I would try and see if I could salvage it. Truthfully it turned out better than I thought it would but still, not the best sketch. I like how the buildings around it came out though which although not really the point, is nice. Anyway, hope you guys don’t mind me sharing this off day lol.

Till next time!

Day 757: Ornate Gate

Day 757: Ornate Gate (21 3a, Cerradads Chamilpa, Mexico City)

Time taken: 35 minutes

So, stumbled across this gate at a random dead end street in Mexico City this morning and just had to sketch it due to its random ornate top. Kind of got a bit carried way with this one giving it a bit more detail than I have been lately especially with the brick work but I was watching a documentary on Stephen Witlshire and I think the continued repetition of the word detail may have rubbed off on me (and I got distracted watching the documentary as I love Stephen Wiltshire’s work and didn’t notice the time passing). Still the end result is nice and I’m happy with it and the time spent on it so I don’t mind and I hope you guys don’t either!

Till next time!

Day 756: Spoke Wheel Windows!

Day 756: Spoke Wheel Windows (183 Huaxotle, Mexico City)

sketchingdailyDAY756

Reference view: Unfortunately I can’t find the same street or the bookmark for this one.

Time taken: 30 minutes

So, another view of some houses this time showing the downside of using steetview to sketch from as the part that actually caught my attention on this house was the circular windows on the side but this was the best view that I could get of them. Still the buildings behind the gate have some interesting lines and shapes to them so I’m not too worried and the subject is in the sketch anyway so it’s all good!

Till next time!

Day 755: Overlooking the city

Day 755: Overlooking the city (21 de Marso MZ9, San Miguel Testongo, Mexico City

sketchingdailyDAY755

Reference view: map street view

Time taken: 20 minutes

Loved this view from the top of this hill, overlooking a part of the city so had to sketch it. Tried to emphasise the foreground and the background using a bolder pen line for the foreground which I think worked out well. It was quite interesting trying to represent the city in the background and trying to stop myself from adding each individual building, instead of going for the random lines that I ended up with. Hope you guys like the small sketch!

Till next time!

Day754: Roof Clutter, Mexico City

Day754: Roof Clutter, Mexico City

Time taken: 25 minutes

So, choose this one for similar reasons for yesterdays in that I loved the look of all the clutter and the roof furniture with what I assume are water butts and just other general clutter. Lots of textures and some contrasts in this one which I hope I managed to achieve as I had a lot of fun doing this sketch and am glad that I found the scene.

Till next time!

Day 753: Iztaccihuatl, Mexico City

So, another house sketch form Mexico City this time chosen for the whole ruined and slightly more shanty look to the top of the building that caught my eye while wandering around map street view. Tried to add a bit more texture to this one in regards to the walls than I have been as I wanted to add a bit more interest to the open spaces on the walls.

Till next time!

Day 752: Calle Flor del Rio, Mexico City

So, loving the look of these sketches lately and how there coming out even if they arev quite small sketches. Chose this one as I loved the look of the big red gates ( not that you can tell they’re red in a black and white sketch but hey!). Again though the sketch came out nicely and looks like the subject which makes me happy!

Till next time!
