Day 983: Overgrown Arch

Day 983: Overgrown Arch

Slightly more simple one for day 983 and back with the architecture, specifically looking at an old arch which looks like its from a graveyard or mausoleum type structure. Loved how deep the shadows got in the recesses of the actual arch in this one and all the hugging vegetation which I hope came out in the sketch. The roof line looks a bit odd admittedly but that is what it looked like in the reference so we’ll just go with it!

Day 904: Abandoned

Day 905: Abandoned

So, this was a bit of a smaller one for day 905 with a slightly simple but still interesting subject (or at least interesting if you like decay and abandonment). So this, I assume is inside an old home or medical/elderly home, not really that sure. Anyway, I quite like the outcome even though it is pretty simple and didn’t take all that long. I also didn’t think the chairs in it would be noticeable at all but it turns out you can see them which is nice. All in all a successful little sketch!

Day 903: Old Satellite

Day 903: Old Satelitte

So, really like this one a lot and definitely one of my favourite of the recent ones that I’ve done. Just an old Satellite that’s been left to rust but I loved the skeletal look of the disk and the huge size of it all. Not really much else to say about it and I’m falling asleep so I’ll leave you with a short, but hopefully good one!

Day 895: Forrest Steps ‘Take 2’

Day 895: Forrest Steps ‘Take 2’

Right, this is a bit of a repeat form a few years ago where I posted a sketch of the same subject (which I’ll just post at the end of this post so I don’t have to go find it). Definitely  takes longer doing stippling than using a brush pen (as I did in the original) as I only got the stairs done and none of the surroundings but I think it still came out better for what’s there. Might be a slightly biased towards the method of execution though I’m not sure. Guess you guys will have to judge!

Day879: Castle Stalker, Scotland

Day879: Castle Stalker, Scotland

Time taken: 45 minutes

Another sketch from Scotland of my current apparent obsession with ruined castles and random lakes, showing, you guessed it, a ruined castle in the middle of the a lake. Not the best place I would have thought for a castle or tower but there you go, I suppose its easily defendable.

Anyway liked the view with the different layers to it and wanted to sketch it. Bit annoyed that I didn’t get any of the sheep in the bottom half of the image in the sketch (well ok I kind of got one just below the tree line on the right hand side of the image but not it looks that much like a sheep if I’m being honest). but other than that I’m happy with the sketch (though I do wish I could have got a better photo of it too but hopefully I’m goignt o get a scanner soon so that problem will be gone!)

Day 877: Dunnottar, Scotland

Day 877: Dunnottar, Scotland

Time taken: 1 hour

So, this was a bit more of a time consuming stippling sketch today of another ruined castle in Scotland. Loved the reference image because of the lightning crashing down behind it but I’m not too sure I managed to actually capture that in the sketch. Was definitely struggling with the contrast between the sky and the lightning with trying to make it stand out as the stippled technique didn’t really work with defining the flash. Might just have to try it again and see if I can get it a down a bit better!

Day 874: Gylen Castle, Scotland

Day 874: Gylen Castle, Scotland

Time taken: 50 minutes

Another one of Scotland in the same vein as yesterdays sketch this time with a bit more than just landscape in it with this lovely ruined castle overlooking the bay beside it. Quite like the look of it though I do prefer yesterdays sketch as I think it has a bit more detention in it over this one, not that this one looks bad or anything and I’m still really enjoying these landscape and stippled sketches and hope that you guys are as well!

Day 855: Old Ruined House

Day 855: Old Ruined House

Time taken: 30 minutes

Another creepy looking house for day 855 with this old and dilapidating looking building somewhere in America with its rather unique and weird looking staircase up into the house. Not really all that much else to say about it so I’ll leave it here for you all and hope that you like it.

Day 843: St Andrews Cathedral Ruins

Day 843: St Andrews Cathedral Ruins

Time taken: 20 minutes

So, just another quick write up for this one, with the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral showing what I assume was one of the towers of the Cathedral. Love the rather precarious look of the tower as it looks like its goignt o collapse at any point and I loved the arches in the windows so decided to make this quick, fun little sketch of it!
