Day 954: Abandoned Train Station

Day 954: Abandoned Train Station

So, this was a pretty cool looking building in Poland that had several different descriptions depending on what Pinterest image I was looking at. One said it was a industrial station and another said it was a passenger station (in which case it would be a pretty industrial looking passenger station). Either way it looked pretty awesome so I had to sketch it.

So, decided to sketch this random building, done in the Morning before work with the nearest pen I had to hand, which, turned out to be a really cheap biro. Really liked the buttresses on the bottom of this building and the details on the top half of the building and was happy with how the sketch came out, even though it is a bit sort of curved in a  weird way.

Day 815: Warsaw Panorama

Day 815: Warsaw Panorama

Time taken: 25 minutes

So, something a bit different for yesterday with this panoramic view of Warsaw for the daily sketch. Really didn’t try and be overly accurate with this one either to be honest, just kind of throwing the lines down in the vague hope that they would actually make some sort of readable cityscape and it seems to have worked in most of the sketch. It was also pretty fun to do so I will try and get more of these into the blog from now on (I emphasise on the try, I’ll probably forget tomorrow).

Day 815: Carmelite Church, Warsaw

Time taken: 23 minutes

So, this was a relatively quick sketch that I got done before I headed off to work yesterday of a church in Warsaw with some rather grand and detailed facades on it. Loved the columns and the shadows that they were casting on the walls behind it as well as the black spot points on it. Quite happy and suprised with how much I managed to get down for it only taking just over 20 minutes but I was listening to a art vlog and it obviously helped to focus me (or I just didn’t spend loads of time in between getting distracted by stuff, which is probably more likely).

Day 813: Traditional Polish House

Day 813: Traditional Polish House

Time taken: 40 minutes

So, this one I really liked the outcome of, especially all the rendering on it and the amount of details that I managed to get down. As for what it is I think its a traditional Polish house though would be completely at home in amongst other timber frame houses in multiple places what with it’s lovely frame work and balcony on the right side. I just hope the sketch looks as good as I feel it does to you guys!

Day 812: Winalow Palace, Warsaw

Time taken: 35 minutes

So, this was a bit of a panoramic sketch for day 812 of the royal Polish palace of Winalow. One of the few buildings to actually have survived all wars complete and as such, a rather big part of Polands history. Not that this made me draw it, I just really liked the grand sweeping look of it and the details that were found throughout the building and wanted to see if I could get them down on a small scale in a reasonable amount of time.

Day 811: Another Old Barn

Day 811: Another Old Barn

Time taken: 30 minutes

Another random jump back into buildings with, what I can only assume is some sort of Polish style barn seeing as that’s what I googled. Unfortunately I’ve no idea for certain what it is as the wiki page translated from Polish (or what I assume is Polish) to some other language which isn’t English (my linguistic skills are rather limited to say the least). Anyway, regardless of what it is actually used for I quite like the general shape and the materials that the building was made from. Looking at the reference image now though, I realise that I should probably have pushed the tones and the shadows a bit more but the shape is there and I think there getting a bit more consistent with the perspective and stuff, which is the idea of these daily sketches (though I actually need to do something with this skill that I’m trying to build up).

Day 809: Golden Gate, Gdansk

Day 809: Golden Gate, Gdansk

Time taken: 45 minutes

So, got a bit carried away with this sketch and spent a bit extra on it than I meant to but I really like how it came out so think it was well worth it. The building itself is another one of the famous landmarks in Gdansk and formed part of the fortifications of the city. Having been rebuilt in 1957 after WW2 I’m not sure how much of the original building remains but I still really liked the look of it and hope you guys like the sketch too!

Time taken: 35 minutes

So this was another building that I liked the look of in Poland, though this time in Warsaw, not Gdansk, and seemed like it would be quite a simple one to sketch out as I didn’t have a lot of time. As usual though I managed to take a while over it and give it a bit more detailing than I initially meant to but I guess that’s the sign of a good sketch, when you stop taking notice of the time!
