Day 1016: Eltz Castle, Germany

Another lovely castle this time located in Germany. Containing more towers and elements than the previous one and possibly constructed on the side of a mountain. Prefer the outcome of this sketch as well when compared to yesterdays one as I think I managed to get the proportions and perspective down a lot better. Still a nice little sketch of a ornate castle.

Till next time!

A lovely castle located in Austria for day 1015 with this really nice looking wooden topped tower in the middle. Like the plants climbing up the side of the tower as well and the height variations in the buildings around it. though I managed to accidently get the perspective a bit wrong on it which was a shame but there we go, still not a bad sketch.

Day 1014: Statue at Barrington Court

Another sketch from Barrington this time of one of the many statures that are around the grounds. Not sure who its menat to be but it just looks like your usual classical Greek or Roman soldier in a suitably solider like pose. Not the best sketch either unfortunately as I struggled with the proportions and the shape in general. mind you figures have never been soemthign that I’ve had that much interest in or been that good at. May have to try and practise them some day!

Did this sketch from a photo that I took while we were at Barrington Court, a lovely National Trust property in Barrington near Ilminster, Somerset. Lovely house with some lovely gardens which unfortunately were baking hot on the day. Still I managed to get a couple of photos to do some sketching from one of which you can see above. A wing of the main house, this repurposed part of the building now houses some tearooms (cant remember what it used to be sorry) with lovely ground floor door like windows and some accompanying foliage. Really happy with how it came out as well (and I actually managed to get an accurate number of doors and windows so thats a bonus!) and I really enjoy sketching these old buildings and stately homes and hope it shows!

Some more coasters this time looking at Europa Parks Silver Star, a B&M Hypercoaster with a  lovely silhouette against the sky that caught my eye/ Not a very complex image but definitely one that I enjoyed doing and gets the image across pretty effectively without all that much information being present.

Till next time!

Day 1009: Emerging

Day 1009: Emerging

Found this really nice image for day 1009 of a tube train emerging from one of the many tunnels that make up the network. Love how tight a fit the tunnel is and can only assume that either they didn’t have such stringent health and safety measures back then or the trains have grown over time. Either way if it made a lovely looking and fun sketch which came out well (interestingly enough my favourite part I think is the cabling down the side of the tunnel).

Another sketch from a photo taken at Yeovil, this time looking at a turntable display that they put on using a small Diesel engine and some carriages. Quite a nice little demonstration on a turntable that has seen the Flying Scotsman turn around on it as well. Anyway a nice little sketch to show off the demonstration.

Day 1005: Old Acid Truck

Day 1005: Old Acid Truck

So, a little while back now we took our son to have a look at one of the Yeovil Railway Centre open days where they had some activities there mainly for children but also a short ride on the old local branch there. Anyway, I managed to get a few photos of the day including this one of an old acid container wagon (or at least I think it said acid truck on the side, not entirely sure). Quite a nice little truck sat there on a siding, I just wish that I’m given a bit more contrast to the actual sketch. Might come back and try again at some point though.

Day 1003: Old and New

Day 1003: Old and New

More trains this time with a  side by side comparison of some old and some newer London underground stock (old on the right and new on the left). Love the size different between the two of them hence the choice of subject for the sketch. Also liked how it came out despite it looking a bit faded in places.

Till next time!
