Day 792: Nemesis ‘Alton Towers’

Day 792: Nemesis ‘Alton Towers’

Time taken: 20 minutes

So, having been a bit burned out on sketching stuff form the model village I decided to return to the whole rollercoaster sketching thing, this time having moved onto Alton Towers (there was one more coaster at Thorpe Park, the Flying Fish which I have ridden but I didn’t really feel like sketching it though I may go back to it at some point). Anyway, this is probably my favourite rollercoaster that I’ve ridden (as clichéd as that statement is), really forceful and just the right amount of roughness to it with plenty of headchoppers. Thought I’d get this sketch of it going through a loop as it gave a nice view of the coaster and the train and again, I went for a sketchy messy style to it which allowed me to get it done quite quickly (and probably more accurately than if I’d tried to get everything right). Anyway, I hope you guys don’t mind this jump back to coasters, I’m almost as obsessed with them as I am with sketching!

Till next time!

Day 791: Babbacombe Model Village, Grand House

Day 791: Babbacombe Model Village, Grand House

Time taken: 20 minutes

So, this was a rather nice large house made up of several different building types including a stone and brick structure and a wooden beamed structure which I think had something to do with fox hunting though I’m not completely sure to be honest. All I know is that the tow structures together looked pretty nice so thought I would take a picture and then do a sketch of it for you all.

Day 789: Babbacombe Model Village Harbour Scene

Day 789: Babbacombe Model Village Harbour Scene

Time taken: 30 minutes

So this was the newest scene at the place, one of a harbour scene that is typical of a lot of the little fishing villages around the coast of the country, with its sheltered harbour and fishing ships. took a really loose approach with this one (though I don’t think it was my original intention I think I just got a bit annoyed at one point and just thought screw it). Quite like the outcome of it though even if it does look quite rough around the edges ad messy and I hope you guys do too.

Day 789: Babbacombe Model Village, Suspension Bridge

Day 789: Babbacombe Model Village, Suspension Bridge

Time taken: 25 minutes

So this is a slightly less successful attempt at drawing a suspension bridge from the model village. No idea if it was actually based on a real bridge somewhere or not but it was still quite a fun little scene in the village which had the train going over it every now and then (which, predictably my son loved), just wish I had managed to get it drawn a bit more accurately than I have.

Day 788: Babbacombe Model Village, Village Houses

Day 788: Babbacombe Model Village, Village Houses

Time taken: 30 minutes

So, this lovely little scene from Babbacombe was pretty much one of a variety of British village architectural styles put onto one street (or at least that’s what I assume it is). Quite a fun little sketch as well with all the different styles and varying roof line in it and one that came out quite nicely in the end.

Day 787: Babbacombe Model Village Wombley Stadium

Again were in the model village with its football stadium. A version of Wembley Stadium (name changed though to Wombley). Quite liked the building in this (though not that much of a football fan) and really like how the angles came out in this as the perspective seems to work really well. I did change one thing though as I couldn’t do with Arsenal beating Chelsea so swapped the score around using artistic licence!

Day 786: Babbacombe Model Village Canal Lock

Day 786: Babbacombe Model Village Canal Lock

Time taken: 20 minutes

So, a pretty quick little sketch of a canal system with a boat in a lock for day 786, still in the model village. Not really a hell of a lot to say about it either to be honest, I just like the whole mechanism of a canal lock system so thought I would photo and sketch it and am pretty happy with the outcome even if it is simple.

Day 875: Babbacombe Model Village, Funicular Railway

Day 875: Babbacombe Model Village, Funicular Railway

Time taken: 20 minutes

So, this was another little scene of a Funicular railway which I struggled to get a good photo of due to its location. Still I managed to get this one and get this sketch from it so I’m not going to complain too much about it. Funnily enough though my favourite part of the sketch is the little car on the cliff to the right of the scene.

Day 784: Babbacombe Model Village Radar Scene

Day 784: Babbacombe Model Village Radar Scene

Time taken: 25 minutes

So, just a quick little sketch for yesterday of the mock up scene of a radar station at Babbacombe. Loved the amount of detail in this scene (and all of the scenes to be honest) and actually really enjoyed sketching it, especially the radar ball as the shape was a lot more interesting  than the shapes that I usually sketch. Anyway I hope you guys like the little scene!

Till next time!
