Time taken: 35 minutes

So for yesterday I found these lovely arcade machines just propped up in a doorway on a random side street in Mexico City and had to make sketch of it just because of how random it was. Bit of a stretched look to the machines but nevermind, the idea and the random look of the scene is there so that’s what matters and I actually really enjoyed sketching it so consider it a very successful sketch which I hope you lot like as well!

Till next time!

Another rather simple looking scene for todays sketch as I didn’t think I would have that much time to actually do it as it was daddy daycare today. Still I really liked the look of the shop on the left so really didn’t mind how simple the scene was and had a lot of fun sketching it. Took a bit of liberty with the whole values of the inside of the shop and a couple of the other bits of the sketch but I think that they helped with the values so I’m not so worried about it and I hope you guys aren’t either!

Till next time!

Day 725: Ensaladas

Day 725: Ensaladas (Av, Sor Juana Ines de la cruz 83, Metropolitana, Mexico City)

Reference view: Unfortunately I’ve lost it and can’t find the street even using the address.

Time taken: 30 minutes

So, back in a more built up part of the city today looking at these two little shops with some cars parked out front. Nothing too overwhelmingly interesting with the architecture and look of the actual subject but I just liked how the elements looked together and how they formed the scene. Anyway I hope you lot like it as much as I do!

Till next time!

So, as you will have probably noticed, I’ve done this one in a bit of a older style than the ones that I have been doing recently and really enjoyed it. No real reason to the change other than I just wanted to try something a bit looser for a change rather than the more refined and controlled stuff that I have been doing.  No real rhyme or reason for the subject choice either to be honest I’ve just always loved the look of favela type structures and although no where near as run down as a normal favela this had some of the shanty town elements and they caught my eye. Also liked the loose look of the style and the just putting down the liens without to much thought so may go back to this style for a bit.

Hope you guys don’t mind too much!

So, found this interesting looking modern church a couple of streets over from where we did yesterday’s sketch, which, with its striking shape and the framing from the trees and the lovely shite fence for contrast made me instantly want to sketch it! Pretty happy with it as well wonky lines and all and I like that I managed to get the white fence to actually look like a white fence which I normally struggle to do.

Also, the figure at the bottom actually looks like a figure so it looks like Day 722: Street Food did help me out a bit!

Back to architecture with this lovely looking building in Mexico City (seriously the architecture around this city is so varied and different in every street).  Loved the dark bands on this structure and the shapes on it and just had to sketch it. Happy with the results too for the amount of time it took and I hope you guys like it too!

Another shopfront from Mexico for yesterdays sketch (sorry I missed the upload yesterday, had to visit a family member, this time selling electrical goods (or at least I assume it is). Again I really enjoyed this sketch and am glad that it came in close to the 30 minutes time limit I’m trying to stick to again. Specially liked the inside of the shop as well which seems to be a common point of interest for me along with large roof top signs and I hope you lot enjoy it too!

Till next time!

Day 719: Farmacias

Day 719: Farmacias (144 Alamos, Cuidad Nezahualcoyotl, Mexico City

Time taken: 35 minutes

Another random street in Mexico City for today with a look at a couple of shops this time (which I think is a Pharmacy but I’m not to sure) and this rather weirdly shaped building above it which is all kinds of funky, architecturally speaking and looks like it has elements of several things in it including a church but hey, it sure is eye-catching! Kind of wished that I’d spent more time defining some of the lines it (especially around the awning) but other than that I really like the sketch and how it came out with particular to the bit of truck that you can see in the bottom right hand corner. Quite enjoying these Mexican sketches!

So, after doing that sketch of a frontloader yesterday I decided that I was a bit burned out on New York City so we’ve headed south to Mexico City where I’m hoping the architecture will be a lot less uniform and have a bit more randomness and different elements to each scene, starting with this random view of a house somewhere int he suburbs. Quite an odd looking building, or rather, couple of buildings with a huge gated area next to the thin house and a random mixture of textures which I found enticing. Quite happy with the sketch as well, not as well defined as usual but I think for the time I had it shows what was there well and I enjoyed it and the various bits of it and I hope you lot will do to!

Till next time!
