Day 949: Unicorn Fish, Plymouth Aquarium

So, apologies again for the long break in posting these blog posts. I will try my hardest to get caught back up before it gets too far back (currently on day 959 in actual sketch terms) starting with a quick post of the last of the Aquarium fish in the form of, what is definitely one of the weirdest fish that I saw there, this Unicorn fish. Not really all that sure why it has a long nose on the front of it but it sure makes it look unique put it that way and definitely worthy of a quick sketch.

Day 948: Giant Octopus Plymouth Aquarium

Day 948: Giant Octopus Plymouth Aquarium

So, this is the second of the sketches from the Aquarium and I think its actually the second time that I’ve sketched an octopus from there. Liked the shape that the thing made as it crammed itself into the rocks (probably trying to get away form the two toddlers trying to get it too come out to be honest but there you go), still it made for a nice photo and hopefully looks like its menat to despite my sketching skills  and the odd shape and look. Still we have a overly weird looking fish for Day 948 so look forward to that.

Day 947: Lobster, Plymouth Aquarium

Took a trip to the aquarium the other day to see my sister in law and her family and managed to get a few pictures of a couple of the creatures there including this lobster hiding behind some rocks. Not the clearest of sketches but I think its still pretty obvious as too what he subject matter is and it came out better than I thought it would do while actually sketching it so that was a bonus! Anyway, as I said I took a few photos on the day so lets take a look at a few more of the sketches that I did from them.

Day 796: Random Fish, Plymouth Aquarium

So, this was a bit of a weird day as I did half of the sketch before I went to work then forgot to actually finish it off later in the day. Luckily, it was pretty much finished when I lift it before work so I didn’t have to worry too much. As for what fish it is I have no idea, again like the Lionfish it was in the huge tank in the middle of the Aquarium. but I liked how the photo came out so decided to sketch it.

Day 795: Bioluminescent Jellyfish, Plymouth Aquarium

So, another image from the aquarium, this time one of the glowing jellyfish in one of the many small tanks in the aquarium. Again I really like how this one came out, and was a bit worried while sketching it that it wasn’t going to looks anything like the subject and reference photo but once I added the black background into it came out really well and it really helped it pop out of the sketch.

Day 793: Lionfish, Plymouth Aquarium

Day 793: Lionfish, Plymouth Aquarium

So, for my wifes birthday we headed down to the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth to have a day out and while there I took a few photos of some of the fishes and marine life down there  including this one of a Lionfish (or at least I assume its a lionfish, it was in a huge tank with god know how many other fish sdidn’t have its own information board for me to be sure about but, as far as I can tell its a Lionfish). Anyway I used my brush pen for this one for something a bit different and really liked how it came out with this one , with the shading being a lot better than I thought it would turn out while I was doing it which, is always a nice thing to happen. So, hope you like the fish and expect a couple more to come over the next few days as I choose some of my photos to sketch.
