Day 773: Colossus Corkscrew ‘Thorpe Park’

So, another sketch of a rollercoaster from Thorpe Park, this time of the one time record holder for most inversions, Colossus (held it with 10 inversions for several years) made by Intamin AG. Was one of the first extreme rollercoasters that I ever rode, and although its beginning to get a bit rough (and gives my wife a headache), I still like it and its a fun coaster!

Till next time!

So, another sketch of Nemesis Inferno for todays sketch this time as it goes down the first drop with the lifthill in the background and one of the themed buildings in the Amity Ville area of the park (which is separate to the actual area that the rollercoaster is in). Again another fun little sketch that came out really nicely which I hope you guys also like!

So, decided to combine two of my loves in life, drawing and sketching and Theme Parks and rollercoaster (plus, I recently bought Planet Coaster and so, Theme Parks are kind of stuck in my head at the moment). Anyway this is one of my favourite rollercoasters in the form of Thorpe Parks Nemesis Inferno, a B&M invert with some decent inversions and theming. Choose this image of the ride going through one of the turns over one of the bodies of water as I thought it made a nice scene and was interesting and fun to sketch. Quite happy with how it came out and I think it looks recognisably like a rollercoaster which is the main thing so that’s good. Definitely going to be doing some more of these sketches for you guys, so I hope you like them as much as me!

Day 770: London Architecture 1

Time taken: 25 minutes

So, this photo was taken a while back when me and the wife were in London for the weekend. It’s of one of the tall office blocks quite close to Harrods and the expensive street where they have a Ferrari as a window display (at least I think that’s where it is). not sure if this is all of the building or only a part of it but there we go, still enjoyed the sketch and the outcome and actually managed to get a accurate amount of floors and windows into it!

Day 769: Montacute Minaret

Day 769: Montacute Minaret

Time taken: 25 minutes

So, a bit of a quicker sketch for day 768 and the last of the ones from Montacute house, this time of one of the many minaret towers surrounding the main garden of the house. Quite liked this simple looking structure with its twisted top and the dark trees providing contrast behind them and am pretty happy with how it came out for the amount of time the sketch took.

Time taken: 30 minutes

So, another photo sketched from Montacute house, this time of one of the towers house/rooms in the corner of the formal garden with another matching one on the other side. Quite a nice little building with some interesting shapes and details on them given how small they are and quite fun to sketch quickly even if parts are a little bit inaccurate!

Time taken: 35 minutes

So, on Sunday we decided to make the most of the day and go do some National Trust visiting at Montacute house. Anyway this is the front view of the house form the driveway leading up to it. Quite a grand house as you can see. Not the best sketch either but its pretty accurate in terms of the features of the building to nevermind.

Till next time!

Day 766: Steam and Snow

Day 766: Steam and Snow

Reference image: Sorry, I’ve lost the tab that I had for this image. I know it was from Pinterest though.

Time taken: 35 minutes

So, another steam train for day 766, this time one steaming through the snow past this old barn (or some such building). Quite a nice image with the barn and the trees framing the locomotive well and the steam billowing about and I really enjoyed sketching it. Pretty sure I also promised my son that I’ve do him a sketchbook full of trains whilst drawing this too, because, you know, I don’t struggle enough keeping up with this sketchbook and blog!

Till next time!

Time taken: 25 minutes

So, this is another sketch of one of the engines sat at the station at Pecorama I took on a visit the other day. This time the engine is Claudine a small boxy little engine sitting at the station about to turn around and get ready for another loop of the track. Another quick sketch done under a bit of time pressure but I still like how it came out and once again it has a train so automatically has my sons seal of approval!
