Day 617: 123 Silverthorne Rd, London

Time taken: 30 minutes

So, found a rather random concrete plant in the centre of London while wandering around and thought that it was a interesting building a sketch and a change from what I had been sketching lately. Plus I love industrial buildings so that was a added bonus.

Not a hell of a lot actually in the sketch but the main focus was recorded and that was the bit that mattered (it’s the building in the centre with the concrete tanks in case you were at all confused). Really enjoyed it as well as, as I mentioned above, it was a nice change from the high rises and landscapes that I have been sketching and a bit more relaxed and I hope you all enjoy it too.

TIll next time!

Day 616: Red Post Hill, London (North Dulwich Station)

Day 615: Red Post Hill, London (North Dulwich Station)

Time taken: 30 minutes

So, decided to do another rail station for day 615. I also decided to change up my choice of pen nib size, changing from the 0,1 to the 0.3 as I was going through the nibs on the 0,1 pretty quickly. Not that this really means that much to you guys but as it’s a sketching blog, mentioning equipment makes sense to me.

Anyway the actual sketch was quite fun, choose the building because I love the old brick look to it and old station buildings in general. Do seem to have taken a bit of artistic licence with some of the dimensions in this but nevermind and, like usual I wish I’d managed to get more into it than I did but I think I spent some time during this sketch trying to get used t the pen nib and using it at different angles to produce different width lines without wearing the nib down really quickly.

Till next time!

Time taken: 30 minutes

So, this was a bit of a architecture study rather than a look at the city of London and the many scenes found there. Found this rather modern and clean building but with a number of details and a interesting shape to it.

Sketch took a bit longer to get the details down than I imagined it would with the building obvio9usly not finished. I do like the accuracy of a lot of the details on the building that I have got down though as they are pretty accurate in placement on the sketch. I do wish though that I could have rendered it a bit better but there we go, at least I have the shapes down.

Till next time!

Day 614: 15 Grand Rd, London (Clapham Junction)

Day 614: 15 Grand Rd, London (Clapham Junction)

Time taken: 35 minutes

So, decided to change the focus a bit with this sketch and look at some buses instead. It’s also a sketch from a place that you don’t automatically assume has a bus station (though thinking about it now, I’d be surprised if it didn’t) as were outside of Clapham Junction, a place obviously associated with trains.

Pretty happy with how the sketch came out and really enjoyed sketching out the various buses in the scene as it was a nice break form the usual buildings. I think it also shows how my vehicle sketching skill have come on a whole lot since I started doing these streetview sketches which is always nice.

Anyway I hope you guys like it as well and I’ll try to get caught back up again over the next couple of days as I’ve fallen behind again so…

Till next time!

Day 613: 323 Clapham Rd, London

Day 613: 323 Clapham Rd, London

Time taken: 30 minutes

So, another random building in London in the form of this public house on Clapham Road. (not sure if this is actually in Clapham or just on the road leading into or away form the area). Thought the building itself looked quite nice and unique and stood out quite well in the area  it was in (basically the usual criteria for what interests me in a building which, I’m sure your all aware of by now).

Now apart from the rather obvious mistake it the sketch (hint: I may have accidently squished the building a little bit) but nevermind, I still like the outcome and the whole faded and outlines look of the buildings around it which I think help situate it without actually distracting from the focus of the sketch.

Anyway, as usual I hope you all like the sketch and feel free to leave any comments or criticisms that you may have!

Till next time!

Day 612: Moorland Rd, London

Time taken: 30 minutes

So, another random building found in London wandering around in streetview. Quite a weird looking one this time and I’m not sure what I really make of it. On the one hand I like the bold and unusual choice or architectural styling but on the other, I don’t know if I actually like the look of it or not. I that made any sense at all.

The sketch however I did enjoy the building had some interesting features and lines to it and the very different bit in the middle to help break up the bleak angled walls. It probably could have done with a bit more time to actually give the building some sort of grounding as it does look a bit vague at the moment but still, I enjoyed doing it so I’m happy!

Till next time!

Day 611: Brixton Market, London

Day 611: Brixton Market, London

Reference view: google streetview

Time taken: 30 minutes

So, for today I decided to head into The market that I was meant to be sketching yesterday and get a sketch from The inside showing the actual market stalls and what not’s. Still not sure I really managed to capture it completely but it definitely looks more like a market than yesterdays sketch did so I consider it a success in that respect. I was quite a busy sketch as well with quite a lot of details to try and figure out how I was going to get it in in the time allotted.

Anyway I quite like the outcome of it and it gave me some practise with people so that’s all good things.

Till next time!

Day 610: 30, Atlantic Rd, London

Day 610: 30, Atlantic Rd, London

Reference view: google streetview

Time taken: 30 minutes

So, for today’s sketch I found this view of a less well kept area of London in the centre of  Brixton, around Brixton market. Quite an interesting and busy area with an evidently busy market atmosphere. Unfortunately I accidently misjudged the room I needed to do the sketch and cut of most of the market bit that I wanted to include in the sketch but oh well, what I have sketched I really like so I’m not that worried. Will just have to come back and sketch the actual market at some other point.

Till next time!

Day 609: A306, London

Day 609: A306, London

Reference view: google streetview

Time taken: 25 minutes

So, was a bit stuck on finding an inspiring view to sketch yesterday so decided on this one of the centre of Barnes in London. Choose it because I liked the amount of traffic that was in the scene and just felt like doing a vehicle heavy sketch.

Liking the outcome as well for the most part. Sure the buildings aren’t the best sketch that I’ve done but given that the focus was on the vehicles, I’m not all that worried. I do really like the car in the front and the van to the side though which is the main thing but really, there’s not a whole lot more to say about the sketch so…

Till next time!
