Day 469: Anger
So, for today, after trying to find some more muscle reference images I gave up and settled on this one of a man charging at you (or something like that he may just be bent over screaming I’m not sure).
I definitely made him look a lot angrier than in the reference and like he may have just had his face knocked about a bit but I do like it overall and like how the pose came out with the face and the muscle shapes.
As I said in the last blog I might do some Da Vinci studies soon so you may see one of them tomorrow or just another muscle study sketch, we’ll have to see.
Day 468: Muscle Study
Reference: Did this from a tablet and don’t have the reference image handy sorry. It was on Pinterest though.
So, for yesterday I didn;t have very much time left to actually do the sketch so decided to try a muscle study of an arm so choose the above reference to do it from and I found the way that the muscles were tensed, rather interesting.
Don’t think it came out that badly either., The definition could be better on the actual muscles. though but the shapes are pretty accurate. I did also find it quite interesting as a subject to sketch and I think I might try and do some Da Vinci studies soon as I like his style of drawing as well.
Anyway, I have today’s to upload still so let’s move onto that one.
Day 467: Power
So, I returned to the same model as I used a couple of days ago to get another male dancer pose in my attempts at sketching muscles. Happily, this one came out a lot better than yesterday’s female muscle study, especially the legs which I like how it came out.
Again, the face also came out a lot nicer on this sketch than the female dancer sketches seem to which is weird but nevermind at least some of the faces are working.
No idea what I’ll sketch tomorrow though it’ll probably be another dancer or figure study or something like that.
Day 466: Unusual
Reference: Did this one from google image search on my phone so unfortunately don’t have a link to the original image.
Quite a weird one today with an odd and slightly awkward pose that I’m not sure I captured very well. Choose it because of the visible muscle structure that you can see on the female dancer. Unfortunately, the sketch was rather rushed in the beginning and me wasn’t really able to bring it back towards the end.
The definition on the muscles isn’t really there either which doesn’t really help as it was meant to be a muscle study sketch. Anyway, we’ll move on from this now as, in case you couldn’t tell I didn’t really like this sketch.
Day 465: Dynamic
So, today I choose to try and sketch a male dancer for a bit of a change. Choose this image because it looks like it could also make a cool looking action pose for a mage or something.
Really liked how it came out as well and is definitely one of my favourite of the dance sketches that I’ve done lately. I especially like the muscle on his leg and how that came out and think that the use of the ballpoint really helped in this sketch to achieve the tones. Also for the first time, the face actually looks good and realistic rather than overly awkward.
Think I might try a couple more of these male poses as I think drawing the muscles will help to improve my tone and shading approaches and skill. Anyway I have to head off before I’m late for work so I’ll see you all (hopefully!) tomorrow!
Day 464: Together
So, tried to do a couple dancing yesterday and choose this couple of latin dancers as I liked the pose that they were in and thought it would make a challenging and interesting sketch. Unfortunately, the sketch didn’t really turn out exactly as I’d have wanted it to with some bits a bit squashed up.
The faces didn’t turn out that well either but I think I managed to salvage something with the actual pose as I don’t think the actual shapes are that off. I also quite like the contrast of the black and white areas so that turned out ok.
Anyway, let’s move onto today’s sketch which in my opinion turned out a hell of a lot better than this one.
Day 463: Grace
Another dancer today in a rather simple pose. Really like how it came out as well due mainly to the shading on the clothes and how I actually seem to have managed to do the whole contour shading thing on this sketch with the dress actually looking like it has volume rather than being flat and weirdly cross hatched like usual with my sketches. The pose itself also came out alright with the arms maybe being a bit long but nevermind. I like the sketch as a whole.
Right, one more to upload until we’re all caught up but I may have to leave that until tomorrow as I have some stuff to do and I’m pretty tired.so we’ll see.
Day 462: Handstand
Another dancing orientated one for day 462, but this time it’s in the form of a female dancer doing a handstand . Quite an interesting shape to draw and one that I don’t think came out too bad.
I quite like how I managed to get the proportions mostly correct with this one rather than accidently elongating limbs and the figures head didn’t come out too bad which is good.
So, as you’ve probably guessed I’m a couple of days behind so let’s move on with it and get the next one up.
Day 461: Back in Motion
Reference: picture clicky (the sketch is of the bottom still)
So, another dancing pose for today’s sketch, Done quite quickly without much thinking about it this is meant to show a woman fling a load of dust up into the air with her hair. Not sure I got it across brilliantly but I think I may have just managed it. Done in ballpoint pen (still, can’t decide which I like best).
Again although this isn’t perfect the actual pose is getting a lot easier and quicker to draw as I get familiar with the shapes which were the whole idea of this run of dancing poses. True I think some bits are slightly out of scale but the shapes are less awkward than they used to be for me.
Anyway that’s us caught up again which is brilliant, and just in time to head off to work too so I’ll see you all tomorrow!
